Project Description

Water Spray Play Zone and Supporting Amenities

Washtenaw County Parks Department

OCBA led the multidisciplinary team charged with the development of a new Water Spray Play Zone and Supporting Amenities, intended to provide a larger, multifunctional facility to replace the existing Spray Zone at Independence Lake County Park.  The proposed improvements included a multipurpose building with concession area, office and changing rooms/restrooms, children’s playground, two pavilions, shade structures, parking for approximately 300 vehicles, trails, a fishing dock, and related site improvements.

The new facility was designed to be impressive and warrant fee entry; a unique “destination” spray park designed to increase attendance and revenues at the park.  The proposed improvements were intended to strike a balance between facility capacity, entertainment value, and operations costs.

The multidisciplinary team led by OCBA included Slocum Architects, Byce Consulting Engineers, and Vortex International.
