Merit Award: American Society of Landscape Architects/Michigan Chapter 2023

OCBA was retained to redesign a fountain space between the Library and the new Student Center in the heart of the WMU campus. Goals included creating a low maintenance green space with the sound of water, and reusing most if not all of the granite slabs WMU had acquired from a previous buiding demolition.

Existing retaining walls were refaced and recapped with granite, and curved seat wall were placed in front of a series of granite steps over with water flows into a pondless basin before it is recirculated to the top. The angular granite fountain steps are softened by lush sedge and ornamental grass plantings.
